Piaz Merlot is a barrel-aged red wine that captures the essence of the Ticino territory. It represents one of the most authentic and award-winning expressions of Azienda Agricola Bianchi.

Grape variety: Merlot.

Winemaking: grapes are fermented and macerated in conical wooden vats for 30 days, then aged in barriques for 15 months. This product is crafted in compliance with certified BioSuisse organic farming principles.

Geography & terroir: vineyards are primarily located in the Mendrisiotto region, at the foot of Monte Generoso, with a predominantly South/South-East exposure. The soil is well-drained with a red porphyry or limestone bedrock. Yield: 650 g/m².

Tasting notes: a ruby-red wine with a complex bouquet, featuring fresh fruity notes and spicy nuances. On the palate, it stands out for its remarkable freshness and harmonious balance between elegant tannins and rich fruit pulp. A medium-bodied wine, refined and highly pleasant.

Food pairings: ideal as an accompaniment to risottos, premium cuts of red meat, or medium-aged cheeses.

Ageing potential: ready to drink immediately, already expressing its balanced character. With 3–5 years of bottle aging, the tannins evolve to become rounder and silkier, offering an even more harmonious and complex palate.

Optimal serving temperature: 17 – 19 °C

• 2019: 2nd place at the Mondial du Merlot in Zurich (Grand Master category) for the 2017 vintage.
• 2023: the 2019 vintage obtained 92 points and a Silver medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards in London.
• 2024: the 2021 vintage was named among the top 44 Swiss organic wines by the renowned magazine Vinum and awarded 90 points by Decanter (Silver category, for the third consecutive time).
• 2024: the 2021 vintage obtained 91 points from Falstaff in the Wein Guide Schweiz 2025 and 97 points at Wine System Matter of Taste (Great Gold category).
• 2025: the 2022 vintage was ranked among the top wines in the Falstaff Wein Guide Schweiz 2026.
• 2026: 3rd place with 92 points in the Falstaff Swiss Merlot special.
