Merlot Piaz, a barricaded red wine that captures the essence of Ticino’s terroir, represents one of Azienda Agricola Bianchi’s most authentic and award-winning expressions. With a history that began in 1998, the winery has dedicated its work to the production of organic wines, placing a strong emphasis on sustainability and respect for biodiversity.


This wine has won significant international recognition, including 93 points at the Decanter Award in London and second place in the Grand Master category at the Mondial du Merlot in Zurich. These awards not only attest to the excellence of Merlot Piaz but also to the winery’s commitment to producing high quality wines.

Characteristics and Vinification:

Merlot Piaz is produced through a careful and meticulous process. The grapes, harvested in the fertile lands of Arogno, undergo fermentation and maceration in conical wooden logs for 40 days, followed by aging in barriques for 15 months. This method gives the wine a distinctive structure and character, enhancing the flavor profile of Merlot.


The eye shows a deep ruby red color, while a complex bouquet emerges on the nose, dominated by fresh fruit notes and spicy nuances. In the mouth, Merlot Piaz reveals remarkable freshness, with a harmonious balance between elegant tannins and rich fruit expression. The wine is moderately structured, offering a persistent and fully satisfying taste experience.


Merlot Piaz pairs beautifully with meat-based first courses, such as risotto enriched with Ticino lard and herbs, or luganighetta, enhancing the flavor of both. Serve at a temperature of 16-18°C to fully appreciate its richness and complexity.
